Ranked at # 10 in 2020; 200 fewer violations than in the previous year. 9. Forklifts and Powered Industrial Trucks (1910.178): 1,932 violations. Ranked at #7 in 2020; 512 fewer violations than in previous year. 8. Eye and Face Protection (1926.102): 1,452 violations. Ranked at # 9 in 2020; 83 more violations than in the previous year. 7. Fall Protection–Training Requirements (1926.503): 1,666 violations. Ranked at # 8 in 2020; 45 more violations than in the previous year. 6. Lockout/Tagout (1910.147): 1,698 violations. Ranked at # 6 in 2020; 367 fewer violations than in the previous year. 5. Hazard Communication (1910.1200): 1,947 violations. Ranked at # 2 in 2020; 1,252 fewer violations than in the previous year. 4. Scaffolding (1926.451): 1,948 violations. Ranked at # 4 in 2020; 590 fewer violations than in the previous year. 3. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics a total of 4,764 workers died as a result of on-the-job injuries
in 2020 – a 10.7% decrease from the year before and the lowest number of fatalities since 4,585 were
recorded in 2013, according to Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) data released on December 16, 2021.
Additionally, the overall rate of fatal workplace injuries decreased slightly, to 3.4 per 100,000 full-time equivalent workers in 2020 from 3.5 the previous year.
BLS included additional clarification on the COVID-19 pandemic, stating, “CFOI reports fatal workplace injuries only. These may include fatal workplace injuries complicated by an illness such as COVID-19.” CFOI doesn’t report illness-related information, however, including that for COVID-19.
